About Us
The mission of the United Way of Washington County-East is to unite our communities and local resources to give each person the chance to build a better life. We work collaboratively to: Promote Thriving Children and Youth; Increase Financial Stability and Meet Basic Needs; and Improve Health and Independence -right here in the heart of Washington County.
Who We Are
Locally governed, locally funded, and locally focused, our United Way is fueled by hundreds of other volunteers who serve our community and participate in funding decisions. Working collaboratively with area agencies, government, businesses and residents, we unite the community to address critical community issues and find lasting solutions.
We are committed to ensuring access to essential services for the most vulnerable in our community.....our children and youth, our elders, people with disabilites, neighbors living with chronic illness and mental illness, residents who need food, shelter and emergency support.
UWWCE fulfills our mission through the following four focus areas:
- Promoting Thriving Children and Youth;
- Providing Basic Needs and Financial Stability;
- Improving Health and Independence;
- Supporting Self-Sufficiency and Connection to Services.
Since 1949, our local United Way has been caring for people in our region. Originally established as The Washington County Community Chest, 60 years later, our United Way continutes to ensure that resources and programs are available in our community for those who need them most, when they need them most.
In order to keep meeting community needs, we launch our annual community giving campaign where we invite buisnesses and individuals to give invest time and resources in our community. The 2009 "Building Better Lives" campaign runs August through December and we invite you to give generously.
Each gift to the United Way of Washington County-East is used wisely and direclty to meet priority needs in the community as determined by communittees of local volunteers. We proudly meet the standards of the Charities Review Council and and keep overhead costs under 16%. This is possible thanks to the strong commitment and tireless service of our volunteers.
