Brian Mueller was appointed to lead the Stillwater Police Department in January 2021. He began his law enforcement career in 1998 ith the White Bear Lake Police Department and shortly afer accepted a position with the Washington County Sheriff's Office. In 2017 Brian was appointed by Sheriff Dan Starry to be the Chief Deputy, overseeing all Sheriff's Office operations, a position he held until his appointment as Stillwater Chief of Police.
Police Chief Mueller graudated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in Criminal Justice and MA in Police Leadership and Education. In 2023, he graduated from the 86th Session of the Senior Managment Institute for Police hosted byt he Police Executive Research Foorum. He has served as President of the Special Operations Training Association of Minnesota (SOTA), Treasurer for the Lakes Center for Youth and Family in Forest Lake and Chair of the Minnesota Violent Crime Coordinating Council (VCCC). He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for Canvas Health, Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association, and United Way of Washington County-East.
Brian lives in Lake Elmo with his wife, Lori, and five children. When not at work he enjoys time with his family and coaching youth hockey.
Brian joined the United Way of Washington County-East board in 2024.
