Dr. Michael Funk has been the Superintendent of Stillwater Area Public Schools since 2022 and has more than 20 years of experience leading school districts. Before coming to Stillwater, he erved as the district leader in Albert Lea Schools and hte BOLD Public Schools. Prior to becoming a Superintendent, he was a high school Social Studies teacher, coach, activities director, and principal.
Funk is also a Retired Army Colonel from the Minnesota National Guard with 30 years of service. As a career infatry officeofficer, he commanded soldiers at the platon, company, battalion, and regimental level. He deployed twice to the Balkans in the early 2000s.
He has a strong academic background in stategic operations, with a Doctorate in Educational Policy from the University of Minnesota, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. Funk was named the Minnesota Superintendent of the Year in 2022, by the Minnesota Association of School Administrators.
Funk joined the United Way of Washington County-East board in 2024.
