UNITED IS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
There are so many ways to get involved with your LOCAL United Way – whether you're passionate about planning events, advancing equity, supporting mental health, or shaping how community dollars are invested. No matter the interests or availability, there's a meaningful way for you to make an impact close to home.
Behind-the-Scenes Committees
Love bringing people together? Join a committee that plans and supports our signature events like the annual gala, Stuff the Bus, Fish United, You R You, and more. These volunteers play a vital role in creating welcoming, well-organized events that connect neighbors, build relationships, and strengthen our community. By helping bring people together, committee members directly support our mission and ensure our events are impactful, inclusive, and memorable for everyone involved.
The Annual Campaign
Our Annual Campaign is our largest source of revenue and a powerful way to create lasting local change. Campaign efforst include events like Lunch + Learn, Leadership Breakfast, and United Way Week. Campaign supporters help fund nonprofit partners and lead initiatives that advance equity and address the community's most pressing needs. Get involved by starting a workplace campaign, serving on the campaign steering committee, or becoming a Give Back Partner today.
Women United
Women United of Washington County-East is dedicated to advancing the mental health and well-being of women and girls. Through advocacy, collaboration, and strategic initiatives, Women United works to break down stigma, expand access to resources, and build a supportive community where women and girls can thrive. We also host You R You, a one-day retreat for girls and those who identify as female entering 6th grade, focused on mental health, body positivity, and healthy relationships.
Youth United
Youth United empowers students in grades 6 - 12 to lead with purpose and make meaningful change in their community. Supported by the United Way of Washington County-East Executive Director and Youth United Intern, this youth-led program builds leadership through service, philanthropy, and hands-on learning. Members volunteer locally, attend engaging community events, lead their own fundraising efforts, and award grants to local nonprofit youth programs doing impactful work. Through it all they gain skills, confidence, and connections that last a lifetime.
Community Investment Panel
The Community Investment Panel brings community members together to help guide how local funding makes the greatest impact. Volunteers serve on one of four impact areas – Youth Opportunity, Healthy Community, Basic Needs, and Self-Sufficiency – each led by an experience United Way Board Member. Panelists review nonprofit grant applications, participate in site visits, and collaborate on thoughtful funding allocations. This hands-on process includes two required in-person meetings and agency visits, offering a meaningful way to support equity, accountability, and community-driven change.
